We’re hosting a day-long event in honor of our 2nd year! Join us for a day filled with artist demos, live music, and the opening of our resident artist showcase, “A Place Called Home.”
Home, physically, is a place we live. But conceptually, home is an emotion. We aim to feel comfort and safety at home. We want to feel free to be and express ourselves. Home can be a space such as a house, but it can also be a family, community, culture, country, etc. The things we call home can shape our identities by giving us a sense of roots from which we can grow. Having these sources to return to for security is also a privilege that many search for, and many take for granted. Sometimes the comforts of home can’t be found where they are traditionally, but instead arise in unexpected places. The name Foundation Studios suggests a community baseline of support for artists to gather, express, and grow. “A Place Called Home” showcases the many unique and personal meanings our resident artists find in the theme of home.
We will also be featuring the I Am Home Art Project, a local nonprofit that provides a nurturing environment where artists at risk of homelessness can find community, experience healing and create from a place of hope and dignity. By giving access to materials, space and gallery showings, they serve marginalized artists by giving them the opportunity to receive 100% of the proceeds from sales.
To support the organization, we’ll be hosting an art supplies drive leading up to, and on the day of the event. I Am Home is most in need of the following donations:
– Paint brushes (all sizes)
– Acrylic paint (all colors)
– Water colors
– Graphite pencils
– Charcoal sticks
– Canvases (preferably 11×14 or bigger)
– Standing Easels
– Paint palettes
– Aprons
– Pencils
– Gesso
